8 of TV's Greatest Dance Scenes [Complete with GIFS]
Many great comedy sitcoms come complete with a fun dance scene at one point or another. Whether the characters are awkwardly flailing about, or being unexpectedly graceful, the routines are often side splittingly delightful. The next time you’re at a loss for dance moves, consider some of these classics.
“Seinfield” – Elaine Dancing to “Shining Star”
In the “Seinfeld” episode "The Little Kicks," Elaine gets a dance party started with a few jerky movements as "Shining Star" by Earth, Wind, and Fire plays in the background. In the words of George, her dance moves are basically "a full body dry heave," and her coworkers aren’t impressed.
"The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” – Carlton’s Dance
Carlton's dance isn't just a one-time occurrence. He swings his arms and hips multiple times throughout the series, whether listening to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" or Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual." Actor Alfonso Ribeiro also brought the dance back during a season of "Dancing with the Stars."
“That 70’s Show” – Fez Dancing to “I Will Survive”
Foreign exchange student Fez shows off his dance moves in the very first season of “That 70's Show.” During the episode “Prom Night,” He twirls and struts at the prom to the classic song "I Will Survive," despite being alone for the night.
“Friends” – Ross and Monica’s Routine
In attempt to get noticed during a televised dance, Ross and Monica resort to "The Routine," a dance they perfected in middle school. The two-person dance involves plenty of leap frogging and coordinated, but awkward cabbage patching. They succeed in getting attention, but it's not exactly positive. The episode, which appears in the sixth season, is appropriately titled, "The One with the Routine."
“The Big Bang Theory” – Sheldon’s Cha-Cha
Despite its nerdy cast of characters, "The Big Bang Theory" offers up some excellent dance lessons. Sheldon shows off his cha-cha skills in "The Agreement Dissection," a season four episode in which Penny, Amy, and Bernadette take him out dancing. "Muy caliente, Sheldon!"
"Parks and Recreation" – Ron Swanson’s Drunken Dance
Fans of "Parks and Recreation" know that Ron Swanson is a man who takes himself seriously. However, in "The Fight," an episode in season three, Ron very briefly cuts loose in a drunken dance. His song of choice? Flo Rida - Who Dat Girl featuring Akon.
“Scrubs” – Turk Dances to “Poison”
Singing and dancing is a pretty common occurrence in "Scrubs." One of the best scenes takes place in the episode "My Half-Acre," in which Turk shows off a few hip-hop moves as he dances to "Poison" by Bell Biv DeVoe. It's a pretty lengthy scene for a one-man dance act, and Turk's footwork is perfect. Even the Janitor is impressed.
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” – Mac’s Elbow Dance
Need a simple dance that's hard to ruin? Mac's elbow dance from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is just right for you. In the season three finale, Mac throws his elbows out to the music, as if he's in a streetfight. Careful not to knock out anyone dancing around you.
